The hiring of the two lawyers has also strengthened the firm's high standards of professionalism which it has maintained for more than a decade of providing full quality legal service to the people.
Part of this sustained client-oriented policy includes assigning a lawyer to focus on an area of expertise to better address the needs of its growing clients. Thus, Yolanda A. Slaughter, an experienced labor litigator, became a senior associate assigned with the Labor and Employment practice division of the Mesriani Law Group.
Ms. Slaughter received her Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice, major in Corrections, from California State University Long Beach. She attended Western State University College of Law where she received her Juris Doctor degree, graduating cum laude.
An excellent student, Ms. Slaughter reaped several awards. She received the BLSA Distinguished Student and Public Service Scholarship in 1998 and the Dean's/Board of Trustees' Scholarship in 1998 and 1999. While studying law, she received the Bancroft-Whitney American Jurisprudence awards in Property, Trust and Remedies.
Ms. Slaughter also served as full time Judicial Extern for the Honorable Warren J. Ferguson, Senior Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. She is also an adjunct professor at Santa Ana City College with the Business Administration's American Bar Association's accredited paralegal program.
As a labor and employment lawyer, Ms. Slaughter has represented employees in a variety of employment-related matters, including sexual harassment, discrimination based on age, race, sex, national origin, religion and disability, along with wage and hour violations, breach of contract and wrongful termination. She has appeared in both state and federal courts, and before administrative agencies including the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor and Standards Enforcement, and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing.
As an experienced litigator, she has successfully tried employment related matters, including sexual harassment and religious discrimination cases. In addition, she had successfully obtained favorable resolutions to many employment disputes through mediation, alternative dispute resolutions and direct settlement negotiations.
Ms. Slaughter is admitted to practice in all state courts of the State of California and the United States District Court for the Central and Eastern Districts of California. She is also an active member with the American Bar Association and the California Employment Lawyers Association.
On the other hand, Tamara Droubi is the firm's associate handling business and personal injury litigation. She received her undergraduate education at the University of California at San Diego, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Biology in 1996.
Before attending law school, Ms. Droubi lived in Japan for two years where she worked as an English teacher for the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program. She traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia and Europe.
Ms. Droubi also worked as a litigation legal assistant for MCI, Inc. and the Washington D.C. office of Bryan Cave LLP.
Ms. Droubi attended the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C. As a law student, Ms. Droubi interned at the U.S. Court of Federal Claims for the Honorable Mary Ellen Coster Williams. She worked for the American Civil Liberties Union on the reauthorization of the Patriot Act. Ms. Droubi also interned at a plaintiffs\' employment and labor law firm.
In addition, Ms. Droubi was the President of the Arab-American Law Students Association and a member of the Moot Court Association. She participated in a number of moot court competitions, including representing her school at the National Telecommunications Moot Court Competition. In 2006, she received the Outstanding Appellant\'s Advocate Award in 2005 and the Dean\'s Award.
Ms. Droubi grew up in San Diego, California. She speaks Arabic and Japanese.
